Woodworking Dust Collector
Ecogate’s smart woodworking dust collector system delivers targeted extraction only where it’s needed, unlike traditional systems that run constantly and waste energy. Our technology monitors each workstation and activates extraction on demand, ensuring efficient dust control without unnecessary power use.
This intelligent approach leads to major benefits:
- No wasted energy
- Lower electricity bills
- Improved extraction performance
On average, our clients save 68% on energy usage while maintaining a cleaner, safer workshop. Use our online savings calculator or contact our team to see how much you could save.

Health and Safety Hazards of Wood Dust
Wood dust is a serious health and safety risk that can lead to long-term health problems. That is why Carpenters and joiners are four times more likely to suffer from asthma compared to other UK workers. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 requires all woodworking facilities to protect workers from the hazards of wood dust by taking adequate measures.
This includes fitting a suitable dust extraction system at each woodworking machine to capture and remove dust safely. Ecogate’s on-demand extraction allows you to activate each workstation separately, so dust collection is provided only to the machines that are currently in use. This helps you not only keep your employees safe but also optimise your dust extraction, saving money and minimising your carbon footprint.
Ecogate’s Approach to Safe Woodworking Dust Extraction
Ecogate provides safe and efficient woodworking dust extraction through a proven three-step process, delivering powerful performance with minimal energy waste.
1. Capture Dust at the Source
Effective woodworking dust extraction begins at each machine. Hoods are installed to capture dust precisely where it’s generated. Each machine requires a specific air volume based on drop diameter and air velocity. This ensures proper dust collection.
However, not all machinery comes with well-designed hoods. Even when operating at the recommended air velocity, some hoods may fail to capture dust efficiently. In these cases, adjusting or redesigning the hoods is essential to achieve reliable performance.
2. Transport Dust to the Woodworking Dust Collector
Once collected, the wood dust is transported through the ducting to the woodworking dust collector. Maintaining consistent air velocity is critical for efficient dust transport.
Ecogate’s greenBOX control system ensures minimum required transport velocities in the ductwork, enhancing both efficiency and system longevity.
3. Process the Dust
The final stage in the woodworking dust extraction system is processing the dust. This involves selecting the right fan, motor and dust collector based on:
- Total air volume needs
- Type of wood dust
- Production methods
- Machine usage
- Future expansion plans
To maximise efficiency, ensure the first elbow is at least 3x the diameter away from the fan inlet, ideally 5x. Using a fan stack and a direct-drive motor also improves airflow and energy performance.
